Our repeater systems are designed for just such situations. Installing a repeater can help improve coverage of trouble spots where the signal is either weak or non-existent.
It will depend on the size and layout of the area you want to cover. Opisys has systems that will cover up to 2,500 sq ft, and systems that will cover up to 5,000 sq ft. When you are considering which system best suit your needs, you should also take account of inside walls, partitions and large furniture as such obstructions will decrease the effective coverage area of a repeater.
You can tell the frequency band in which Opisys¡¯ repeater systems operate by their model number. USHR-1900H, for example, works for the US PCS frequency band of 1,850 MHz to 1,990 MHz. Please consult your service provider to determine which frequencies your cell phone uses. Opisys¡¯ repeaters are designed to work with virtually all US carriers¡¯ systems, whether they be GSM based, or CDMA based.
The rule of thumb is that if you have some coverage, even two or one bar on your phone¡¯s signal strength indicator, outside your home a repeater can help improve phone signal inside. If you can place the outside antenna high above ground, under the eave, for example, the reception at the antenna is typically better than you can get at ground level.
If you have only marginal coverage at home, you will experience frequent dropped calls and cell phone battery will run out faster than usual. Hardly an ideal situation when you are making business calls. Installing a repeater system can help markedly improve call quality and extend battery life. Also, while using data intensive applications on your phone or wireless modem, you will notice that the connection speed is higher when you have strong signal.
Obviously, outside of a building is best place for an ¡°outside¡± antenna. However, if such installation is not practical, in most cases a repeater system can improve coverage with the outside antenna inside. You need to place the outside (donor) antenna where there is some signal (typically, by window side or outside wall) and place the inside (service) antenna as far away as possible.
The installation process is fairly simple and straight forward. You do not have to have knowledge of the wireless network, and you do not need any special tools.
In most cases, you can complete the installation in less than two hours.
